Permalink Oklahoma City officials gave Occupy OKC protesters to Thursday to vacate Kerr Park. To prevent the eviction, protesters filed a temporary restraining order and injunction Thursday against the city to stay downtown. Permalink NewsOK ran a story this Sunday about an update on a raging wildfire that burned more than 27,000 acres of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in September. The fire was fully contained a month later, but reporter Ron Jackson looks at the lasting effects of the blaze and how it could impact wildlife at the site. The scenic refuge is again open to visitors, and Mother Nature has started the healing process. Greenery can already be seen sprouting from the charred and blackened carpet that covers the refuge terrain, but normalcy is nowhere in sight.

Permalink While most people spent Thanksgiving eating with their families and watching football, Occupy protesters continued rallying for their cause.  The Associated Press had reporters covering Occupy Thanksgiving activities in San Francisco and New York Thursday. In San Francisco, 400 occupiers at a plaza in the financial district were served traditional Thanksgiving fixings sent by the renowned Glide Memorial Church to volunteers and supporters of the movement fighting social and economic inequality. While the celebration remained peaceful in San Francisco, an amplified version of a family Thanksgiving squabble erupted in New York when police ordered a halt to drumming by protesters at an otherwise traditional holiday meal. About 500 protesters were digging into donated turkey and trimmings at lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park when police told a drummer to drop playing. Photo by AP photographer John Minchillo

Permalink Oklahoma State University staff and students are mourning the death of women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna. The coaches were two of four people killed in a plane crash Thursday night. The accident came just two months shy of the anniversary of the Jan. 27, 2001, plane crash in Colorado that killed 10 people affiliated with the men’s basketball program. A memorial service was set for 1 p.m. Monday at Gallagher-Iba Arena on the OSU campus in Stillwater.
